I’m going to attempt to answer that question, “the whole art”, by asking and answering another question;
“If computers were sentient, would they know they were programmed if they weren’t told?”

The video in Anil Seth’s quotation in the link below is fascinating. In it he talks about sensory information coming into the brain which initially doesn’t make sense. However when a new stimulus is added to provide fresh perspective, the exact same unaltered information makes a new conscious perception, interpretational and even ‘predictable’ sense. This I’m convinced is what happened when I experienced a bout of PTSD when a woman – a complete stranger – said the word “pathetic” within earshot, which froze and transported me back to a past abusive relationship (I’ll give you the context of this stranger later in the piece).
It got me thinking….
Through association-conditioning, the ‘Rubber Hand Illusion’ test subject truly believed that with only a few minutes of having his own forearm lightly brushed, that when one of the test controllers suddenly and unexpectedly pulled a knife to stab the fake hand, the test subject reacted instinctively and defensively to this ‘reality‘ as if it were actually ‘real‘ by pulling his actual arm ‘away’ from the knife.
And so with this very brief physiological stimulus, the physical feeling of the brushing created a ‘reality‘ whereby the fake-representative hand – had become his own hand.
This being the case; is it not entirely ‘fake-representation’ feasible that through external, long-term psychological-emotional stimulus and association-conditioning beginning in preadolescence childhood, to combine a flag, anthem and/or a living-deity with the emotional feeling of belonging which is ‘top-down’ projected (as per the Good Morning Britain link below) to become normalised and collective-identity ‘confirmed’ through psychosocial programming sources; via schools, celebrity-led broadcast media and sports teams & personalities etc, to instil within each individual – within each ‘test subject’ – the internalised-sense of social-compliance conformity?
And which does so not only by fulfilling basic survival, security and safety-assuredness needs, but houses these innate individual needs within a programmed sense of ‘moral-superiority’ and occasionally in amoral-superiority, in order to nurture or foment within the collective – a false but entirely felt sense of emotionalised empowerment.
In short, quite literally – a fabricated, manipulated emotional ‘State’ of engineered exceptionalism; an ‘indoctriNation’ in which servility is ‘civility’ and vice-versa – and God help those who see through its slavishness.

Which is then externalised in adolescence and adulthood to be cyclically-reinforced and projected by each individual, slave to their previous innate social-conformity primordial programming, to then assimilate and collectively mass-manifest as an existential, experiential, pseudo-religious physiologically felt ‘belief system‘ – within the thoughts, feelings and behavioural actions of the mass ‘hive-mind’ to manipulate and stimulate a herded ‘instinct‘.
But which conversely, also results in an ideologically unacknowledged toxic, individual insecurity steeped Schrodinger-state ‘superiority-persecution complex‘ permission to self-righteous indignation – proactively promoted by media – to result in the ridicule of perceived ‘lesser, inferior’, non-compliant groups who are ‘justifiably’ to be held in the ‘superior’ powers’ contempt and even anger, of anyone and anything not of ‘Its’ belief system.
Think about It; have you never noticed how this emotional ‘State‘ is always the Imperial-patriotic entitled deserving ‘victors’ over everyone, yet somehow always makes itself out to be the bemused, undeserving ‘victims’ of someone?

And which like the ‘Rubber Hand Illusion‘ can result in a similar ‘instinctive-defensive reaction’, which when a perceived attack takes place on this manufactured, manipulated belief-system then manifests as if it were ‘direct‘ assault upon the individual person him or herself; so that by preadolescent #PatrioticProgramming inseparable-association of the ‘self’, with Monarchy, military and flag seamlessly tabloid-woven with Conservative Government in adulthood – not ‘Commie’, socialist red-flag Labour Government – a slight against any single string in the WWII-centric Union Flag fronted piece, is an affront to the entire ‘British’ orchestra playing to the gallery and by psychosocial engineered association – an ‘attack’ on oneself.
There’s certainly enough evidence in the world to support the ‘Britification’ Rubber Hand Illusion analogy; an ideological reality that is so ‘normal’ because it’s been inter-generationally recycled and reinforced as an invisible quintessentially British emotionalised empowerment psychosocial vehicle to be made, well, a religion.
A religion that sings the praises not of a nation but to an individual; to a living-deity so exalted by its acquiescent acolytes, they inter-generationally instruct their ultimate conditioned deity – God – to ‘save’ her/him. Yet hypocritically we can we observe our own ‘normality‘ reflected in similar servile, slavish unquestioning idolatry of a family dynastic, ‘hypnotic’ Head of State – in North Korea.

Nowhere is this ‘religion‘ more stark than in colonial-remnant Northern Ireland (& The Falklands) – amplified in no small part by being the ‘victims’ of ‘outside‘ aggression and as such, where Unionism is even more vehemently, ideologically British, even to the point of opposing their own native tongue, than the average Englishman who sees his Britishness as a patriotic-pedestal extension of his Englishness.
And certainly more so than the Westminster aristocracy who themselves are well-versed in the manufactured perpetual-conflict roots of this ‘superiority-persecution complex’ emotional ‘State’ and who through 300 years of ‘Gaslighting Gilligan‘, have psychosocial engineered malleable minds to work for and in its perennial favour.

This is how the plutocratic, ‘Great’ British corporate-government oil-war oligarch-politique, ‘The Corpolitique’, have locked and enveloped all the working masses of this island – and beyond – within a cyclical, intergenerational ‘Matrix’-like pseudo-reality wrapped in a flag; to result in “a prison without walls”.
And has done so particularly since the advent of the masses access to post-WWII literacy-numeracy education, to result in a self-perpetuating, self-harming society that is easily emotionalised, distracted and misdirected to target one other with yellow-jacketed heroism.
All of which is housed in a plastic ‘veracity’ by manipulating our innate, human survival-instinct need for safety and social-conformity, which in itself through ‘greater numbers conditioning’ actually compels the conscious-self; this ‘Artificial Intelligence’ incapable of harming its ‘master’ – to rewrite reality in order to stay ‘safe’ within the herd – even when they know that faux ‘reality’ has the foreseeable potential to do them great, irreversible harm i.e. Brexit.

Because having become peer-pressure compelled to believe through limbic preadolescent-hardwired interpretation; that to challenge the aristocratic-entitled structures and their elitist institutions is to without distinction, simultaneously attack or psychologically ‘sever’ the symbiotic-symbolic limbs of our own individual working-class selves. But which also in a rather cowardly fashion, permits us to stay safely housed within the compliance-conditioned pyrrhic comfort-zone confines of the herd.

Sure, individuals can speak out against the elitist structures but often these ‘anti-establishment’ voices who are themselves the hypocritical-product components and sponge-like sentient recordings of their propaganda past and perceived perpetual future, only speak out against the Establishment to hear their ‘conscious self’ and to be marginally heard by other ‘conscious selves’, which is enough to feel valid and therefore validated by the crowd.
However, just so long as what is marginally stated – with or without informed conviction – suits whatever it is the greater numbers of the herd already wanted to hear and thereby affording themselves the hollow echo-chamber ‘authority’ and route to progress upwardly within the framework of a structure they have no intention of changing; or trying something that hasn’t already been tried before.
This innate confirmation bias survival instinct coupled with direct consequence of long-term, inter-generational mass-media, psychological and physiological manipulation to result in the ‘Great’ British States’ own ‘Rubber Hand Illusion‘ achieved through indoctrination and compliance-conditioning – impossible to detect as it was first delivered and crucially, normalised in childhood – would go some way to explaining how we allow such cyclical bouts of human misery in the form of UK wars waged on the poor domestically through induced poverty, imprisonment and inter-generational homelessness; and abroad having become the economically-conscripted cannon-fodder, sent to fight an endless stream of perpetuated conveyor-belt wars.
But yet is cyclically repeated and accepted acquiescently as it has been since The ‘Great War’ (see how easy it is to make us forget and rebrand anything?) with a blind reverence and deference to the established order of things; lest we inadvertently harm ourselves – or be harmed – for mounting a serious challenge.
It’s brilliant. Devious but brilliant. From cradle to grave the ‘belief system’ messaging is; harm the established order, harm yourself.
But just like UK ‘democracy‘ – it isn’t real. It never was. It’s a controlled, manufactured mass-hallucination felt by sentient-computer hard-drives that can never know – they were preprogrammed for a perennial cannon-fodder conveyor-belt by factory settings…

You see in order to breed the British State (& beyond) into a military machine, it must set society up to fail with the normalisation of induced depression in ever increasing concentrations over the course of decades, achieved, in part, through the ‘invisible’ destruction of society by destabilising the family unit psychologically, emotionally & financially; with the precedented design intent to converge with its pre-planned militarisation and mobilisation trigger.
For which the State, the power, ‘The Corpolitique‘ – reap the cyclical, self-perpetuating broken children benefits…

Whether prisoners of the mind in a military uniform or of physical walls; patriotic, pre/adolescent condition-trained by the disciplinarian ‘fatherly’ Government and empathetic ‘motherly’ Monarch; military and flag-worshipping men – who are the key to dictatorship, to owning the streets domestically and securing oil globally – cease to present a threat to the Established hierarchical-order in any significant, cohesive and organised numbers. It’s time to wake up…
Lastly, that word “pathetic” uttered in earshot by a complete stranger which transported me back to my past-abusive relationship on the 12th September 2016? It was by a female household-name BBC ‘news‘ & ‘current affairs‘ presenter – yes on TV. And she enjoys nothing more than pumping out #GenderAgenda divide, rule and recruitment #RampantSexism propaganda; as does the entire western-‘democratic’ mainstream media…
